HOW-TO: Set-up Google Analytics

This HOW-TO assumes you're an administrator of slate. It also assumes that a site is near or already in production.

  1. Send yourself a Gmail invite.
  2. Create a new Gmail account in the form 'wvuslate.domain'. Create a good password but note it so you can send it to the site admin.
  3. Go to Google Analytics at http://www.google.com/analytics
  4. Sign-in with your Gmail information
  5. Click 'Add New Profile'. Follow the steps there to get the code.
  6. Copy the code. It will be in the format UA-11111-11
  7. Go back to the main page for Google Analytics
  8. Click 'Access Manager'. It's in the bottom-left.
  9. Click 'Add New User'. Put in the Gmail address you created and give it read access to only the site it was created for.
  10. Go to slate
  11. Go to the site's properties and add the code in the Google Analytics code box
  12. Double-check that the Google Analytics helper is a part of the theme templates. Right after the body tag should be the helper <%= google_analytics -%>. If not add it and make sure to update the theme online.
  13. Email the site admin the Gmail account name and password and explain how they can log into Google Analytics
