HOW-TO: Set-up Google Analytics
This HOW-TO assumes you're an administrator of slate. It also assumes that a site is near or already in production.
- Send yourself a Gmail invite.
- Create a new Gmail account in the form 'wvuslate.domain'. Create a good password but note it so you can send it to the site admin.
- Go to Google Analytics at http://www.google.com/analytics
- Sign-in with your Gmail information
- Click 'Add New Profile'. Follow the steps there to get the code.
- Copy the code. It will be in the format UA-11111-11
- Go back to the main page for Google Analytics
- Click 'Access Manager'. It's in the bottom-left.
- Click 'Add New User'. Put in the Gmail address you created and give it read access to only the site it was created for.
- Go to slate
- Go to the site's properties and add the code in the Google Analytics code box
- Double-check that the Google Analytics helper is a part of the theme templates. Right after the body tag should be the helper <%= google_analytics -%>. If not add it and make sure to update the theme online.
- Email the site admin the Gmail account name and password and explain how they can log into Google Analytics
